Ascentia House Complaints Procedure
-
At Ascentia House, children have the right to make a formal complaint if they feel their rights have been violated, if they are dissatisfied with the care they receive, or if they experience unfair treatment. They are entitled to support in making a complaint, and the process for filing complaints is explained to them in a clear and understandable way. A member of the public can lodge complaints about Ascentia House.
Ascentia House creates an environment where saying “I need help” feels safe and ordinary. The complaints route appears on the information board, in the orientation packet, and on a small card in each bedroom. A child can raise a concern:
i) directly to any staff member
ii) by handing in a written form
iii) by placing a private note in a sealed box or
iv) by asking to meet the Residence Manager.
Staff treat each route as equally valid and requiring immediate support. The Supervisor ensures visibility and simplicity. Forms sit in plain sight with short instructions and large font; private envelopes are available; the Ombudsman’s contact details appear next to the phone and on the residence information board.
-

Children and young people living in residential settings have access to the Ontario Ombudsman’s Children and Youth Unit.
The Ombudsman is independent and can receive complaints about services provided by residential licensees, including group homes. The Ombudsman may receive complaints from children and young people as well as adults who have concerns about services provided to children and youth.
A child or young person may contact the Ombudsman directly. Ascentia House will support a resident who wishes to contact the Ombudsman and will provide a private means to do so without unnecessary delay.
